Saeed Shirzad was Taken to the Hospital for Severe Kidney Pain

Saeed Shirzad, a political prisoner detained in Rajai Shahr prison, was transferred to Karaj Civil Hospital due to severe kidney pain.

According to the Campaign for the Defense of Political and Civil Prisoners, Saeed Shirzad, a 29-year-old jailed political prisoner in the Rajai Shahr Prison of Karaj, was transferred to the Karaj Civil Hospital for severe kidney pain on Saturday night of December 1st, 2018. It’s said that there is a cyst on one of his kidneys, and the right kidney is abnormally than the left kidney (25%, 3 cm).

An informed source told the Campaign: “On Saturday, December 1st, 2018, Saeed was transferred to Karaj civilian hospital due to severe kidney pain. After an ultrasound, it turned out that the right kidney was abnormally (25%, 3 centimeters) smaller than the left kidney and a cyst is seen on his left kidney.”

The source added that, after knowing about his repeated hunger strike in prison, his physician linked the shrink of his kidney to starvation due to the hunger strike and the lack of timely medical treatment and hospitalization.

This activist and member of the Defender of Children of Labor and Street Association has repeatedly been on long and frequent hunger strikes.

Saeed Shirzad has been detained since June 8th, 2014. He spent more than two months at Evin Prison Ward 209 in solitary confinement without having any connection with his family or lawyer.

The activist’s court, on September 12th, 2015, the activist’s court branch no.15 of the Revolutionary Court of Tehran under the chairmanship of Judge Salavati and his lawyer, Amirsalar Davoudii, after fifteen months of his arrest. He was finally sentenced to 5 years imprisonment on charges of “gathering and colluding for acting against the security of the country”, and his sentence was communicated to his attorney on Wednesday, September 16th, 2015.

The indictment of the court’s decision was mainly related to his civil activities, including meeting with families of political prisoners and reporting on the human rights situation.

Saeed Shirzad, who was sentenced to 5 years imprisonment, in another case was sentenced to one year suspended imprisonment on charges of helping the Ahardar earthquake victims in the eastern Azerbaijani province, and his conviction increased to six years.
