Zia Nabavi and Farhad Maysami are Arrested in Tehran

Sayyed Ziaoldnin Nabavi and Farhad Maysami, two civil activists, were arrested in Tehran on Tuesday, July 31st, 2018, and transferred to Evin Prison.

According to the Campaign for the Defense of Political and Civil Prisoners, Zia Nabavi, a former member of the Islamic Student Association at Babylon’s Noushirooni University and a Student deprived of Education, and Farhad Maysami, a civil activist, were arrested by security guards in Tehran on Tuesday, July 31st, 2018, and taken to Evin Prison.

Reza Khandan, Nasrin Sotoudeh’s husband, on July 31st, announcing Farhad Maysami arrest on his personal Facebook page wrote, “Hour ago, my dear friend Farhad Maysami was arrested at his house. The crisis in foreign and economic relations has provided an excuse for the security and judicial institutions to safely enter the privacy of the activists and arrest them. “

An informed source told the campaign, “Farhad Maysami in a brief conversation with his family several hours after his arrest told them that he has been transferred to Evin Prison”.

On the other hand, Sayyed Ziaoldnin Nabavi, an honor student and former member of the Islamic Students Association of the Babylonian University, who was released from Semnan prison on Wednesday February 14th, 2018, after serving eight years and seven months of imprisonment, was arrested again on Tuesday July 31st, 2018.  In a brief conversation with his family, he told them that he is detained in Evin Prison ward 209. The reason for Zia’s arrest is still unknown.

Zia Nabavi’s Twitter account also has been closed.

Hannah Nabavi, Zia Nabavi’s sister, wrote on Twitter: “I think even one second our shoulders can not handle Zia’s prison. Do not let this eight-year-old fatigue comes back to us. Zia Nabavi was arrested. “

Zia Nabavi was arrested by security forces on May 22nd, 2009, three days after the election. He was tried at Revolutionary Court Branch 26, headed by Judge Pir Abbasi, on charges of moharebeh through communication with Mojahedin Khalq Organization. He was sentenced to 15 years imprisonment and 74 lashes. 10 years of the imprisonment was to spend in jail in Izeh town.

The appeal court changed the verdict to a 10-year prison term in exile. He was transferred to Karoun Prison in Ahwaz on October 2010, and later was transferred to Semnan Prison, with constant family follow up and determination. After serving eight years and seven months of imprisonment, he was released from Semnan prison om Wednesday February 14th, 2018.
