Nasrin Sotoudeh Started a Hunger Strike Again

Nasrin Sotoudeh, a lawyer and human rights activist, started another hunger strike in support of Farhad Meysemi, a civil activist in Evin Prison.

According to the Campaign for the Defense of Political and Civil Prisoners, Nasrin Sotoudeh, a lawyer and a human rights activist detained in the women’s ward of Evin Prison, started another hunger strike on Monday November 26th, 2018 in support of Farhad Meysemi, a physician and teacher who is on hunger strike,

An informed source told the campaign, “Nasrin Sotoudeh said she will start a hunger strike today.”

Nasrin Sotoudeh said in a message from Evin Prison: “I broke my strike for sake of Farhad, hoping that Farhad would break his hunger strike and stop harming himself and his health. Farhad will continue the hunger strike until his demands are met, and I will go on hunger strike to support Farhad on Monday, November 26th, 2018. “

Ms. Sotoudeh has been detained in Evin prison since June 13th, 2018. Earlier, she began a hunger strike on her on August 25th, 2018, and ended her hunger strike on Wednesday, October 3rd, after 37 days, fearing for Farhad Meysemi ‘s situation.

Farhad Meysemi started hunger strike a day after his arrest on August 1st, 2018. He reportedly weighs less than 44 kilograms and is in grave condition.

Earlier, Nasrin Sotoudeh was met by Evin Prison officials for not complying with the hijab ban and had repeatedly been prevented from visiting his family.

Nasrin Sotoudeh was arrested by the Ministry of Intelligence and detained in Evin prison on June 13th, 2018 at her home. She is currently undergoing a five-year sentence for charges such as espionage, as well as two other open-ended cases for security charges.
