Labor Activist Aram Mohammadi was arrested

Aram Mohammadi, a labor activist who had been sentenced to three months and one day imprisonment for organizing the International Workers’ Day event, was transferred to jail to serve his sentence.

According to the Campaign for the Defense of Civil and Political Prisoners, today on Tuesday, December 18th, 2018, the labor activist Aram Mohammadi was arrested and transferred to prison to serve his sentence.

This labor activist was sentenced to 91 days in prison on charges of organizing for International Workers’ Day event in the city of Kamyaran.

May 11th is selected as International Workers’ Day and is a holiday in most countries. Workers all over the world hold rallies and gatherings on that day.

Despite the convocational freedom to hold gatherings, the Islamic Republic of Iran does not allow independent organizations and labor activists to organize labor ceremonies, and if they hold a rally, they will be prosecuted by summoning or arrested on charges such as propaganda against the state and acting against national security.
