Alborz Appeal Court: Baha’i Citizen Liza Tabiyanian is Acquitted

With the province of Alborz Appeal Curt’s verdict, Liza Tabiyanian, a Baha’i citizen who had already been sentenced to seven months of imprisonment on charges of “propaganda against the regime” in the revolutionary court, was acquitted.

According to the Campaign for the Defense of Political and Civil Prisoners, the Baha’i Citizen Liza Tabiayanian was acquitted of the charge of “propaganda against the regime” in Branch 12 of the Appeals Court of the Alborz Province.

The court acquitted the Baha’i citizen of this charge, citing the fact that Baha’i propaganda was not propaganda against the regime.

On March 15th, 2017, Liza Tabiayanian (Enayati), a Baha’i citizen resident in the city of Karaj, was arrested by security forces of the Alborz province and was temporary released on bail on March 26th, 2017.

Branch 4 of the Revolutionary Court of Karaj, in August this year, sentenced the Baha’i citizen to 7 months in prison for being charged with “propaganda against the regime”.

According to unofficial sources in Iran, there are more than three hundred thousand Baha’is, but the Iranian constitution recognizes only Islam, Christianity, Judaism, and Zoroastrians. They do not recognize the Baha’i religion.

For this reason, Baha’i rights in Iran have been systematically violated throughout the past years. Their premises are being sealed or they are faced with sentences such as acting against national security, insulting the leadership, etc.

Baha’i activists believe that Baha’i citizens in Iran are deprived of freedoms related to religious beliefs, and many Baha’i citizens are arrested and imprisoned simply by believing in Baha’i faith.
