Continued Arrest of Maryam Mohammadi, a Women’s Rights Activist

Maryam Mohammadi, a women’s rights activist arrested by security forces at her home in Garmsar, was transferred to Section 209 of the Ministry of Intelligence at Evin Prison. The case of this “Neda-e Zanan Iran” (“The Voice of Iranian Women”) member is being investigated in the Second Branch of the Evin Prosecutor’s Office. Akram Nasirian and Nahid Shaghaghi, two other members of the organization, were previously arrested by security forces.

According to the Campaign for the Defense of Political and Civil Prisoners, Maryam Mohammadi, a women’s rights activist arrested by security forces in Garmsar on Monday, July 8th, 2019, was transferred to Section 209 of the Ministry of Intelligence deployed at Evin Prison to investigate and complete the case.

Ms. Mohammadi’s husband wrote on a memo on his Instagram page: “Today, on Wednesday, July 10th, the third day of her arrest, my wife was transferred to Section 209 of Evin Prison after her call yesterday. We discovered this when we went to Evin Prison to give her money and supplies.”

Earlier, two other members of the “Neda-e Zanan Iran” (“The Voice of Iranian Women”) named Akram Nasirian and Nahid Shaghaghi, were arrested by security forces.

Ms. Nasirian was detained by security agents on the street and transferred to Evin Prison on Monday, April 29th, 2019, and was released on a bail of 200 million Tomans on May 26th, 2019.

Nahid Shaghaghi was arrested at her private home on Wednesday morning, May 15th, 2019, and was temporary released from Evin Prison on a bail of 200 Million Tomans on Saturday, June 22nd, 2019.
