Firoozeh Shafizadeh, a Baha’i Citizen, was Arrested

Firoozeh Shafizadeh, a Baha’i citizen, was arrested by security forces after returning to Iran in a village in Talesh.

According to the Campaign for the Defense of Political and Civil Prisoners, Firoozeh Shafizadeh was arrested by security forces in the village of Khottbehsara in Talash city on Saturday, January 25th, 2020.

According to the report, security agents taken her to the Intelligence Office after searching her home and seizing some of her personal belongings, including books, cell phones, laptops as well as personal photos.

Ms. Shafizadeh is a Baha’i student at an online university who returned to Iran after seven years of studying medicine in India.

The Constitution of the Islamic Republic does not recognize Baha’i as a religion or a fate. Iranian Baha’is are deprived of their basic rights such as the right to education and work and the freedom to hold religious ceremonies. The detention and imprisonment of Baha’is continued for four decades. Several Baha’i leaders and believers have also been executed in the early years of the Islamic Republic and their property confiscated.
