Suleiman Kazemi was Transferred to Prison to Serve his Sentence

Turkish (Azerbaijani) activist Suleiman Kazemi was transferred to Ahar prison to serve his sentence. This Ahar resident was sentenced to seven months imprisonment in a lower court.

According to the Campaign for the Defense of Political and Civil Prisoners, Suleiman Kazemi was transferred to Ahar prison to serve his 7 months prison sentence on Monday morning February 3rd, 2020.

On Sunday, September 9th, 2018, the Third Branch of the East Azerbaijan Court of Appeals, presided over by Judge Behlul Alizadeh and the Judge Hossein Farashi Rador, upheld the sentences of six Ahar city civil activists, including Suleiman Kazemi.

The Court of Appeals upheld the lower court’s ruling, considering that the trial proceeded in the preliminary stage in accordance with the due process of law procedure.

On November 6th, 2015, the Islamic Republic of Iran broadcast a series of offensive content against Turkish citizens in one of the television programs for children and youths, which resulted in street protests in the cities of both West and East Azerbaijan.

The city of Ahar was one of the major centers of urban protests where dozens were arrested.

The trial of the detainees continued for months, and finally on September 25th, 2017, branch one of the Ahar Revolutionary Court sentenced seven of the detained protesters to prison sentences.
