“Mohammad Ali Zahmatkesh”, a retired teacher and teachers’ union activist in Fars province, is still in quarantine at the Adel Abad prison in Shiraz, despite promises from officials.
According to the Campaign for the Defense of Political and Civil Prisoners, “Mohammad Ali Zahmatkesh”, a teachers’ union activist in Fars province, who on April 26th, 2020, appeared before authorities, after a bail was issued and with a promising promise from the authorities to grant him temporary release, is still in quarantine at the Adel Abad Prison in Shiraz for more than 20 days.
“Mohammad Ali Zahmatkesh” was arrested by the security forces during the teachers’ nationwide sit-in protests on Tuesday, November 13 and Wednesday, November 14, 2018. He was released on bail on December 31, 2018.
This retired teacher was sentenced to two years in prison and one year in exile in Arsanjan by Branch One of the Shiraz Revolutionary Court, presided over by Judge Sadati, on charges of “propaganda against the regime” and “insulting the founder of the Islamic Republic of Iran.” on Monday, January 28th, 2019.
He was arrested on Tuesday, May 7th, 2019, and taken to Adel Abad Prison in Shiraz to serve his sentence. The first branch of the Shiraz Revolutionary Court, headed by Judge Sadati, sentenced the union activist to two years in prison and one year in exile in Arsanjan on charges of “propaganda against the regime” and “insulting the founder of the Islamic Republic of Iran.”
The Appeals Court in Shiraz reduced the prison sentence for “Mohammad Ali Zahmatkesh”, a retired teacher and teacher union activist of Fars Province, to eight months.
He was released from Adel Abad Prison in Shiraz on Monday, September 16, 2009, after serving about five months of his eight-month sentence (based on a previous detention period).
