Zeinab Jalalian’s Father Announced that his Daughter Contracted Coronavirus in Prison

Ali Jalalian, the father of political prisoner Zeinab Jalalian, announced that his daughter had contracted the coronavirus at Qarchak Prison in Varamin.

According to the Campaign for Defense of Political and Civil Prisoners quoting the Kurdistan Human Rights Network, Ali Jalalian, the father of political prisoner sentenced to life imprisonment Zainab Jalalian, announced the news of his daughter’s infection with the coronavirus in Qarchak prison. He noted that In June 2nd, 2020, the political prisoner was transferred to Qarchak Prison Medical Center due to severe shortness of breath, and after examinations and tests, she was diagnosed with Quaid-19, but prison officials refused to transfer her to the hospital on the orders of the Ministry of Intelligence.

Zeinab Jalalian, in her last phone call with her family on Saturday, June 6th, 2020, said that she still has a high fever and shortness of breath and is being held in a quarantine ward in Qarchak Prison with several other prisoners with coronavirus.

It is worth mentioning that the medical doctor of Qarchak prison told “Zeinab Jalalian” that the virus is spread to her lung and that they are trying to control the lung infection through medication.

Zeinab Jalalian, a political prisoner sentenced to life in prison, who is in her thirteenth year of her sentence, for unknow reasons, was transferred from Khoy Prison to the quarantine ward of Qarchak Prison in Varamin on Wednesday, April 29th, 2020.

Despite the outbreak of the coronavirus in the country’s prisons, judicial authorities continued to oppose the medical leave for Zainab Jalalian a Kurdish political prisoner.

Zeinab Jalalian, the only female political prisoner sentenced to life in prison, has eyes and mouth disease as well as abdominal pain, and has been repeatedly denied adequate medical care for many years in prison.

It is worth mentioning that after the arrest of “Amir Salar Davoodi”, one of Ms. Jalalian’s lawyers, two other lawyers of this political prisoner have also resigned of being her lawyers.

Zaynab Jalalian, a Kurdish political prisoner, was born in 1382 in the village of Deim Gheshlagh Maku, from the West Azarbaijan province. In 2008, at the age of 25, she was arrested by the Kermanshah’s intelligence services and was transferred to Sanandaj Prison. She was finally sentenced to death on December 2008, on charges of “Moharebeh through her membership in the PJAK party” in a short closed-door trial, in secret and without her lawyer present.

On October 2011, after repeated requests by Mohammad Sharif to the Supreme Court’s authorities to overturn the verdict and with the leadership’s pardoning, Zeynab’s sentence was reduced to life imprisonment.

Amnesty International recently issued a statement, while nothing her sentences unjustly, called for an end to the imprisonment of Zainab Jalalian.
