Farangis Mazloom and Six other Citizens were Sentenced to Prison Terms

Farangis Mazloom, the mother of Soheil Arabi, was sentenced by Branch 29 of the Revolutionary Court of Tehran to six years in prison on charges of “gathering and conspiracy” and “propaganda activities against the regime.” If this sentence is upheld by the Court of Appeals and in accordance with Article 134 of the Islamic Penal Code, the maximum punishment of 5 years of imprisonment, will be applied in relation to this citizen.

According to the Campaign for the Defense of Political and Civil Prisoners, Farangis Mazloom was sentenced to six years in prison by Judge Seyed Ali Mazloom, head of Branch 29 of the Tehran Revolutionary Court.

According to this report, in June of this year, along with Ms. Mazloom, six other citizens named Hani Vahood Yazerloo, Mohammadvali Gholamnejad, Sedigheh Moradi, Mehdi Khawas Sefat and Zahra Akbarinejad Darcheh were also charged by Branch 29 of the Revolutionary Court of Tehran and sentenced to prison terms on charges of “Propaganda against the regime”. The seven citizens were charged with “collaborating with the People’s Mojahedin Organization,” according to security officials.

Ms. Mazloom was arrested by security forces and transferred to Ward 209 of the Ministry of Intelligence in Evin Prison on Monday, July 22nd, 2019.

The Reporters Without Borders (RSF) condemned the arrest of Farangis Mazloom and called on the authorities of the Islamic Republic of Iran to end this illegal harassment, referring to the summoning and interrogation of the families of political prisoners and imprisoned journalists.

Ms. Mazloom has repeatedly tried to secure the release of her son Soheil Arabi from prison.

She was also one of the signatories of the Second Women’s Statement.

On Tuesday, October 8th, 2019, Soheil Arabi’s mother was released on 250 million Tomans bail pending trial.
