Prison Sentences for two Activists Living in Ardabil

 Two Turkish civil activists living in Ardabil were sentenced to a total of five years in prison by the Revolutionary Court of Ardabil.

According to the Campaign for Defense of Political and Civil Prisoners, the First Branch of the Ardabil Revolutionary Court, headed by Judge Mahdavi Rad, sentenced Ali and Reza Vaseghi, two brothers and Turkish civil activists, to prison terms.

The two brothers were sentenced to three and two years in prison, respectively, on charges of “complicity in conspiracy to commit a crime against the national security of the country through the printing of night letters and propaganda activities against the regime.”

This sentence was orally communicated to these activists in the office of the First Branch of the Revolutionary Court on Tuesday, August 18th, 2020.

The two civil activists were also accused of publishing traces of beatings and injuries inflicted on their bodies by security forces on virtual networks after their release, thereby propagating against the Islamic Republic.

Ali and Reza Vaseghi were arrested at their workplace along with beatings on the evening of Wednesday, June 10th, 2020. They were released on bail on June 16th, 2020.

The business place of these activists was also searched by the agents of the Intelligence Office on Thursday, June 11th, 2020. During the search, a number of their personal belongings and computers were confiscated.
