Madeh Fathi was Arrested “With Violence”

Madeh Fathi, an environmental activist and former board member of the environmental association “Kurdistan Green Society”, was arrested by security forces in Sanandaj “with violence.” The Kurdish citizen had previously been sentenced to prison by the First Branch .of the Sanandaj Revolutionary Court, headed by Judge Hossein Saeedi

According to the Campaign for the Defense of Political and Civil Prisoners, Madeh Fathi, a Kurdish citizen living in Sanandaj, was “violently” arrested by security forces at his private home on Monday August 10th, 2020.

According to this report, security forces broke the door and window of Mr. Fathi’s house and violently arrested him, so as a result of this action, his wife Sahar Kazemi suffered from a severe nervous shock. Officers also confiscated some of his personal belongings after raiding his home.

Prior to this, On May 4th, 2019, Mr. Fathi was tried on charges of “acting against the security of the country through membership in dissident groups and membership in the Free Life Party of Kurdistan”, and was sentenced to one-year imprisonment and five years suspended imprisonment for three years. This citizen was verbally notified about his sentences by the First Branch of the Revolutionary Court of Sanandaj, headed by Hossein Saeedi, a few days after the trial.

After the arrest of his wife Sahar Kazemi, Mr. Fathi was summoned to the Sanandaj Intelligence Office and arrested there by security agents on Thursday, November 15th, 2018. He was released temporarily on 300 million Tomans bail on Thursday February 14th, 2019.

In 2018, Madeh Fathi was interrogated and forced to confess in solitary confinement in the Sanandaj Intelligence Office for three and a half months.

Regarding the wife of this environmental activist, Sahar Kazemi, it is worth mentioning that at the end of her sentence, she was released from the women’s ward of the Sanandaj Correctional Center on Thursday, March 12th, 2020.

Ms. Kazemi was sentenced to five years in prison by Judge Hossein Saeedi, head of the First Branch of the Revolutionary Court, which was reduced to 20 months by Branch 4 of the Kurdistan Court of Appeals.
