Hojjat Mokhtarzadeh was Arrested after Appearing in Tabriz Revolutionary Court

After appearing in court, a Turkish civil activist was arrested and transferred to Tabriz Central Prison yesterday for unknown reasons.

According to the Campaign for the Defense of Political and Civil Prisoners, on Monday, August 31st, 2020, Hojjat (Araz) Mokhtarzadeh, a civil activist living in Tabriz, was arrested for unknown reasons and transferred to Tabriz Central Prison after appearing in the Revolutionary Court of this city.

According to the relatives of this Turkish civil activist, Mr. Mokhtarzadeh was summoned to a court in Tabriz on charges of “disturbing public order”, “membership in the Gamaj group” and “spreading lies”, and has since been arrested. There has been no sentence that was issued by the court for him.

Hojjat (Araz) Mokhtarzadeh is one of the detainees after the November 2019 protests. He was arrested by security forces at his workplace in Tabriz on November 17th, 2019. Mr. Mokhtarzadeh was transferred to this prison after spending 14 days in the detention center of the Tabriz Intelligence Office. He was temporarily released a 100 million Toman bail on December 16th, 2019.

Hojjat Mokhtarzadeh had previously been arrested during the popular protests over the drying up of Lake Urmia in 2011 and was released after serving three months in prison.
