Ayoub Shiri, a civil activist summoned to serve his supplementary punishment

Ayoub Shiri, a Turkish (Azerbaijani) civil activist, was summoned to serve his supplementary punishment by a notification from Branch 4 of the Implementation of Criminal Sentences in Tabriz.

Branch 4 of the Implementation of Criminal Sentences of the Public and Revolutionary Prosecutor’s Office in Tabriz, the capital of East Azerbaijan Provence, in northwestern Iran, sent a notification on Tuesday, September 15, 2020, summoning Ayoub Shiri, a civil activist residing in Tabriz, to implement a supplementary punishment, including the purchase and distribution of health items worth of 100 million rials. According to the notification received, this civil activist must report himself at this branch within 5 days to implement the sentence.

This Azerbaijani-Turkish civil activist, who was arrested during the November 2019 uprisings, was sentenced to imprisonment, suspended flogging, and purchase and distribution of health items worth of 100 million rials, after undergoing interrogation and trial.

Branch 102 of the 2nd Criminal Court of Tabriz issued a verdict on Monday, June 29, 2020, sentencing Ayoub Shiri to 1 year in prison and 74 lashes on charges of “disturbing public order”. Due to Mr. Shiri’s lack of record, this sentence has been suspended for 1 year.

Also, this Turkish citizen has been sentenced to 2 years in prison by Revolutionary Court of Tabriz in the first part of the case and is awaiting the verdict of the Court of Appeals.

Ayoub Shiri and his brother, Davoud Shiri, were arrested by security forces on Sunday, November 2019, at their workplace in Tabriz.

Mr. Shiri was released on bail from Tabriz Central Prison on Wednesday, February 26, 2020.
