Afshar Fat’hi went to prison to begin enduring his imprisonment

During the past few days, Afshar Fat’hi, a Kurdish civil activist, introduced himself to Sanandaj Central Prison to serve his sentence.

According to the Campaign for the Defense of Political and Civil Prisoners, Afshar Fat’hi, a Kurdish civil activist from the village of Tangi Sar in Sanandaj (Kurdistan Provence), reported himself to Sanandaj Central Prison on Saturday, October 10 (2020) to serve a 1-year sentence.

Mr. Fat’hi had previously been arrested on March 11, 2019 after being summoned to the Sanandaj Intelligence Department, and was temporarily released from prison after two weeks on a 500 million Toman bail.

Branch 1 of the Revolutionary Court of Sanandaj, headed by Judge Saeedi, sentenced this civil activist to 6 years in prison in September 2019.

Afshar Fat’hi was acquitted in the provincial court of appeals of “membership in the Democratic Party of Iranian Kurdistan” and his sentence was commuted to 1 year in prison.

The civil activist was sentenced to 1 year imprisonment on charges of “acting against national security.”
