East Azerbaijan; 6 months imprisonment for a protester in November 2019 in the Court of Appeals

The sentence of Akbar Mohajeri, one of the protesters in November 2019 uprisings, who was handed down 3 years in prison and 1 year suspended imprisonment in the Tabriz Court, was reduced to 6 months in prison and 1 year suspended imprisonment in the Court of Appeals.

According to the Campaign for the Defense of Political and Civil Prisoners, Branch 1 of the Court of Appeals in East Azerbaijan Province (northwestern Iran) sentenced Akbar Mohajeri, a civil activist residing in Tabriz, to 6 months in prison and 1 year suspended incarceration.

The Campaign (for the Defense of Political and Civil Prisoners) had previously reported that Mr. Mohajeri had been sentenced to 3 years in prison and 1 year suspended imprisonment on charges of “propaganda against the regime” as well as “membership in GAMAC group.”

Mohajeri was arrested by security forces in Tabriz during the nationwide protests in November 2019 and was held in the detention center of the Tabriz Intelligence Department for more than 75 days.

During the detention of Akbar Mohajeri in Tabriz, more than 10 agents of the Ministry of Intelligence of Iran reportedly attacked the house of this citizen, beat him in front of his wife and child, and interrogated him by handcuffing him.
