Family members of two student activists are summoned

Over the past few days, the family members of two Kurdish student activists were summoned to the Urmia Intelligence Department.

According to the Campaign for the Defense of Political and Civil Prisoners, the news received from Urmia (West Azerbaijan Province) indicates that during the past few days, the security agencies have been in constant contact with the families of two Kurdish student activists, asking them to attend the Urmia Intelligence Department to provide some explanations.

Security forces have pressured the families of two Kurdish student activists, Farhad Azarnioush and Manouchehr Azarnioush in Urmia, say reports received.

The two Kurdish student activists, members of the Kurdish students’ cultural committee in Urmia, had been repeatedly summoned and threatened with expulsion by the university’s disciplinary authorities.

“The families of the two political activists have been threatened with arrest if they do not show up and refuse to be summoned,” Kurdish human rights activist Amjad Hossein Panahi told the Campaign.

Mr. Hossein Panahi stated that the reason for the summons was an attempt to silence these activists and force them to cooperate with security agencies.
