According to the report, the Nojin Socio-Cultural Association issued a statement announcing that, we had taken all legal measures to overturn Zahra Mohammadi’s unjust five-year prison sentence, but no success.

Zahra Mohammadi, along with three members of the Nojin Socio-Cultural Association, were arrested after security forces raided their homes in Sanandaj on Thursday, May 23rd, 2019. Two of detainees were released on bail four days after their arrest and then acquitted in court. Zahra Mohammadi remained in custody for about six months, and was finally released on 700 million Tomans bail on December 2nd, 2019.

In July 2020, Branch 1 of the Sanandaj Revolutionary Court, headed by Judge Saeedi, sentenced Zahra Mohammadi to 10 years in prison on charges of “forming a group against national security.” This sentence was notified to her via SMS on July 12th, 2020.

In October 2020, the sentence was reduced to five years in prison by Branch 4 of the Sanandaj Court of Appeal, presided over by Judge Mostafa Tayari.

It is worth mentioning that the ” Nojin Socio-Cultural Association” of which Zahra Mohammadi is a member, is active in the field of efforts to preserve the environment of Kurdistan, control the fire in the forests and pastures of this province, and teach the mother tongue (Kurdish).

This civil activist has been teaching her mother tongue (Kurdish) voluntarily in the surrounding villages and in the city of Sanandaj for 12 years. She was one of the founders of the Nojin Socio-Cultural Association, of which she is currently the chairman.

Zahra Mohammadi is 30 years old and originally from Sarvala Dehgolan village and lives in Sanandaj. She has a master’s degree in geopolitics from Birjand University.

Now the children of Kurdistan question is: Is teaching the mother tongue and preserving cultural and national values a crime? For what sin does our teacher go to prison?
