Execution of a Prisoner on Charges of “Premeditated Murder” in Yazd Central Prison

In October 2021, a prisoner named Mojtaba Shakir, who had been sentenced to retaliation for “premeditated murder”, was executed in silence in Yazd Central Prison.

According to the Campaign for the Defense of Political and Civil Prisoners, according to new information obtained, the sentence of a man was carried out secretly and with the news silence in Yazd Central Prison on Wednesday, October 6th, 2021.

According to the report, the prisoner, identified as Mojtaba Shakir, 40, from Ardakan, was sentenced to retaliation for “premeditated murder.”

“Mojtaba Shakir was the father of three children and had spent a total of two years in prison before his execution,” a source familiar with the prisoner’s execution told Human Rights Watch. “He spent one year in Ardakan prison and one year in ward 3 of Yazd Central Prison.”

After 5 months, still the execution of this prisoner has not been announced by the media inside Iran or official sources.

According to the annual report of the Human Rights Organization of Iran, at least 211 executions out of 267 executions carried out in Iran in 2020 were charged with “premeditated murder.”

Lack of grading for premeditated murder in Iran causes any type of murder, regardless of the severity, weakness and motive of the accused, to result in the death sentence.
