Isfahan Prison; Political Prisoner, Mehdi Salehi Ghaleh Shahrokhi Died from a Wrong Medical Injection

Mehdi Salehi Ghaleh Shahrokhi, a political prisoner imprisoned in Isfahan Prison and in death row, died from health clinic wrong injection. He was one of the detainees from the nationwide protests in December 2017. His charges include “Rebellious through the use of firearms in order to intimidate the public in order to deprive the community of security also corruption on society through the gathering in order to disrupt public security and lead the rioters.” 

According to the Campaign for the Defense of Political and Civil Prisoners, Mehdi Salehi Ghaleh Shahrokhi, Mohammad Rahim’s son, born in 1983, resident of Yazdanshahr, a business owner, married, father of a 9 years old girl, a political prisoner sentenced to death and one of the December 2017 protests’ detainees, died in Khomeini Shahr.

According to the report, a source close to Mr. Salehi’s family confirmed the news of the citizen’s death and stated that he does not know of the cause of his death, saying: “The prison authorities only informed him of his death and did not explain the reason for his death.” The source added “Some of his cell-mates stated that the cause of death was due to the prison’s medical practice, but so far, as mentioned, no official and clear explanation has been given to the family about the cause of death,”.

During the nationwide protests in December 2017 in Khomeini Shahr, one of the protesters, Asghar Haroon Al-Rasheedi, was shot dead. Mr. Rashidi’s family sued Basij agents, the IRGC, and the police for killing their son. After a while, a number of Mr. Rashidi’s friends, including Mehdi Salehi Ghaleh Shahrokhi, were arrested for participating in protests by security forces on November 3rd, 2019.

He was finally sentenced to 2 deaths and imprisonment by the Revolutionary Court of Isfahan on charges of “Rebellious through the use of firearms in order to intimidate the public in order to deprive the community of security “to 1 execution, “revolt through the use of Kalashnikov weapons in riots against the regime” to 1 execution, and “corruption on society through the gathering in order to disrupt public security and lead the rioters” to 5 years in prison.

In part of the lawsuit, it is stated that Mehdi Salehi, in part of his defense, denied participating in the protests. Mr. Salehi claimed that on the night of the incident, Asghar Harun al-Rasheedi’s father, expressed his concern over his son’s health by telephone because a colonel had claimed that they are planning to shot his son. Mehdi Salehi was present at the protest site and witnessed Asghar Harun Al-Rasheedi being injured in the back. Mehdi Salehi was wounded in the head by a bullet when he tried to help and move Mr. Harun Al-Rasheedi.
