Jahangir Noujavan, a drug felon is executed in Orumieh Prison

“Jahangir Noujavan”, a prisoner charged with drug felonies, was executed in Orumieh prison this morning.

According to the Campaign for the Defense of Political and Civil Prisoners, Jahangir Noujavan, son of the Rasoul, who was transferred to the Orumieh prison solitary confinement cell on July 26th, 2018, for execution of the death sentence, was executed today on July 27th, 2018.

Jahangir Noujavan, son of the Rasoul, is from the Bibkaran village in Orumieh, death sentence was issued by the Islamic Republic’s judiciary on charges of drug felonies.

This morning, his family was informed by prison authorities that they could go get his body.

Orumieh was awaiting death row in Orumieh prison since few years ago and on Thursday, July 26th, 2018, he had his last visit with his family.

The execution of this citizen took place when, according to new laws, only detainees accused of deliberate murder in Iran should have their death sentences enforced.

It should be noted that last August, under the amendment of the law on combating drugs that was originally adopted on October 1988, the offenders with convictions for executions in drug-related crimes should be reconsidered for sentence of “one to thirty years imprisonment” or a fine. According to the law mentioned, the defendants who confronted agents with shotguns or firearms, the head of drug dealers group, sponsors, investors or child traffickers, holders of a previously definitive death sentence, or imprisonment for more than 15 years, may be sentenced to death penalty.
