Execution of Five Prisoners on Charges of “Premeditated Murder” in Rajai Shahr Prison in Karaj

زندان رجایی شهر کرج

The death sentences of five prisoners sentenced to retaliation for “premeditated murder” were carried out in Rajai Shahr Prison in Karaj.

According to the Campaign for the Defense of Political and Civil Prisoners, the death sentence of five men was carried out in Rajai Shahr Prison in Karaj on the morning of Wednesday February 23rd, 2022. The five prisoners were all sentenced to retaliation for “premeditated murder.”

According to this report, the identities of two executed prisoners, Hamed Azizi and Mehran Jafari, have been recognized.

Earlier, the Human Rights Organization of Iran announced the transfer of several prisoners to solitary confinement in Rajai Shahr Prison. At least seven other prisoners, six of whom were sentenced to death for “premeditated murder” and one for “moharebeh”, have returned to their cells. It is not clear whether the six prisoners sentenced to retaliation succeeded in obtaining consent from the plaintiff or a deadline for paying the blood money.

“Hamed Azizi had a fight over a girl and killed someone,” an informed source told the Iran Human Rights Organization about the execution of the five prisoners. “Mehran Jafari had also killed his brother-in-law, and although he was the father of two children, his wife and his brother carried out the sentence of retribution.”

The execution of these five prisoners has not been announced by the Iranian media or official sources as of this writing.

According to the annual report of the Human Rights Organization of Iran, at least 211 executions out of 267 executions carried out in Iran in 2020 were charged with “premeditated murder.”

Lack of grading for premeditated murder in Iran causes any type of murder, regardless of the severity, weakness and motive of the accused, to result in the death sentence.
