Sealing of More Than One Hundred Businesses in Hormozgan Allegedly for “Disrespecting Ramadan”

پلمب

In a strange and unacceptable move, the police overseeing public places in Hormozgan province sealed over one hundred commercial units on the excuse of “Violating Ramadan Etiquette.”

According to the Campaign for the Defense of Political and Civil Prisoners, this incident occurred without any precise definition of “disrespecting Ramadan” being provided, and it appears to be entirely subjective, based on the opinions of police officers.

In the meantime, thirteen men and one woman with cases for “disrespecting Ramadan” have been referred to the judiciary.

These actions are taking place while many people suffer from their inadequate economic situation, and the sealing of commercial units could exacerbate their economic problems.

Furthermore, these actions contradict the principle of freedom of belief and religion, violating individuals’ right to choose how to observe Ramadan.

Civil activists and human rights advocates have condemned these actions and demanded their immediate cessation.
