Yasaman Ariani, a Civil Activist Imprisoned in Karaj Kachuei Prison was Beaten and Assaulted

Yasaman Ariani, a civil activist who is being held among those charged with dangerous crimes, was beaten and assaulted.

According to the Campaign for the Defense of Political and Civil Prisoners, civil activist Yasaman Ariani was beaten by a number of regular prisoners on Wednesday February 23rd, 2022.

A source close to Ms. Ariani’s family said: “Recently, the small privileges that have been granted to prisoners for participating in the prison’s cultural activities, including libraries and theater, have been revoked from Yasaman, simply because she is a political prisoner.”

Yasaman objected to this and intended to meet with the head of the ward, but was beaten by several regular crime in prisoners.

Iman Soleimani, Yasaman’s lawyer, said, “Following this incident, Yasaman Ariani’s father and I went Sentence Execution Office to follow up on it, but we were not allowed to enter.”

Yasaman Ariani was arrested and transferred to the Ministry of Intelligence detention center in Tehran on April 10th, 2019. Yasaman and her mother, Monira Arabshahi, who was arrested the day after her daughter, were transferred to Ward 5 of Qarchak Prison in Varamin. They were finally transferred from Qarchak prison in Varamin to the women’s ward of Evin prison on August 13th, 2019.
