Nasim Sultanbeigi, Continued Detention and Indecision!

After more than a week since the arrest of Nasim Sultanbeigi, a journalist and student activist. there is still no information about the reason for her arrest and the charges against her.

According to the Campaign for the Defense of Political and Civil Prisoners, in recent days Iran Jalili, the mother of this journalist on her personal page, referring to her phone conversation after her arrest and her being in solitary confinement, called it an example of torture and wrote: ” My daughter detaining institution is IRGC intelligence and she is still in solitary confinement. We do not know the reason for her arrest and I hope she will be released as soon as possible.”

It should be mentioned that Nasim Sultanbeigi, a journalist for Iranian publications such as the monthly Bidari and Paivast, was arrested by the security forces while leaving the country and taken to prison on the morning of Wednesday, January 11th, 2023.

Previously, this journalist was sentenced to six years of imprisonment by the 15th branch of the Revolutionary Court on November 30th, 2010.

This sentence included 3 years of imprisonment for “actions against national security” and one year for “propaganda against the regime”, to which two years of suspended sentence were added from 2006.

According to statistics, more than 66 journalists have been arrested since the start of nationwide protests in Iran after the suspicious death of #Mehsa_Amini.

The International Federation of Journalists has called for the release of all jailed journalists in numerous statements.
