Shooresh Morovati, a prisoner sentenced to death who was returned to prison late last month after 10 months in Sanandaj Intelligence Department detention center, was transferred to solitary confinement on Monday morning to execute the death sentence.
According to the Campaign for the Defense of Political and Civil Prisoners, on Monday, August 14th, 2023, Shooresh Morovati was transferred to the detention center of Sanandaj Intelligence Department. During the mass protests of the prisoners in Sanandaj prison on the October 10th, 2022, Shooresh Morovati was transferred to the detention center of the Sanandaj Intelligence Department due to his history of escaping from Saqez prison with the filing of a case by the security institutions and the Sanandaj prosecutor.
During this time, he was severely tortured by the security interrogators of the regime, and the interrogators had informed him that they would execute his death sentence with the cooperation of the prosecutors of Sanandaj and Saqez.
According to this source, due to the traces left by the severe torture of this prisoner by the prison guards and security agents, he was kept in the Sanandaj Intelligence Department detention center without the right to contact and visit his family until the end of July.
Shoresh Morovati, a citizen from Saqez, was arrested and sentenced to death in 2008 on the charge of “armed robbery leading to murder”.
The family of the victim had announced in the past years that they would consent for his freedom after receiving the ransom, but the prosecutors of Sanandaj and Saqez are trying to execute this prisoner by putting pressure on this family.
This prisoner managed to escape from this prison during the riot in Saqez Central Prison on March 2020. After a few days he was arrested by the security forces and transferred to Sanandaj prison.
Earlier, another prisoner named Hayman Mustafa’i, who was transferred to the detention center of the Intelligence Department of Sanandaj prison along with the Shoresh Morovati last fall, was executed under the pressure of the prosecutor and the Sanandaj Intelligence Department on June 21st, 2023.
