The sentence of an Iraqi prisoner named Abuzar Taher Arab, who had been sentenced to death for “intentional murder,” was carried out in Qom Central Prison.

According to the Campaign for the Defense of Political and Civil Prisoners, on the morning of Tuesday, February 12, 2024, the death sentence of an Iraqi national in Qom Central Prison was implemented.

This prisoner, identified as Abuzar Taher Arab, 38 years old and a native of Mosul, had been sentenced to death for “intentional murder.”

An informed source regarding the execution of this prisoner told the Iranian Human Rights Organization, “Abuzar Taher Arab was detained about three years ago on charges of killing his employer and was sentenced to death. He had worked for his employer for about four months but was not paid his wages. Abuzar had killed him following a verbal quarrel and confrontation.”

As of writing of this report, the execution of this prisoner has not been announced by Iranian media or official sources.

The lack of classification for intentional murder in Iran results in any type of murder, regardless of its severity, weakness, or motive of the accused, leading to the issuance of a death sentence.
