The whereabouts of the Turkish activist, who was detained by security forces on October 4th, 2020, are unknown.
According to the Campaign for the Defense of Political and Civil Prisoners, more than ten days have passed since the arrest of Zainal Tanhaei, a Turkish activist detained by security forces in Tabriz and still no information is available on his health or whereabouts.
On Sunday October 4th, 2020, Zainal Tanhaei, a Turkish (Azerbaijani) civil activist living in Tabriz, was arrested when security forces raided his private home, beat him, and searched his home and transferred him to an unknown location.
The arrest is said to have taken place without a court order and with the beating of the civil activist.
At the time of his arrest, security forces searched his home and seized some personal items, including his and his wife cell phones.
Following the escalation of the conflict between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Armenia over the Karabakh region, some Turkish (Azerbaijani) citizens organized a protest rally in several cities in protest of what they called the “occupation of the Armenian state”. A large number of citizens were detained by security forces.
