Saman Darvishi, incarcerated in the Greater Tehran Prison, who was arrested a year ago on charges of theft, died due to the torture by the prison officers.
According to the Campaign for the Defense of Political and Civil Prisoners, 31-year-old Saman Darvishi from Hersin, who was arrested on the charge of theft, was tortured and killed by the prison officers in the second brigade of the Greater Tehran Prison on the night of May 8th, 2023.
An informed source said: “This prisoner was beaten by the prison officers several times in the past year under the pretext that he injured one of the police officers during his arrest.
According to the statistics compiled by the Kurdistan Human Rights Network, at least 17 Kurdish citizens died as a result of torture and beatings during detention or committed suicide under pressure in prison.
