Two Citizens were Sentenced to Seven Years and Two Months in Prison by Mahabad Revolutionary Court

Mohammad Ismaili and Ismail Mahmoodpour were sentenced to seven years and two months in prison by the Mahabad Revolutionary Court on charges of “acting against national security through membership in one of the Kurdish parties against the regime”.

According to the Campaign for the Defense of Political and Civil Prisoners, two citizens named Mohammad Ismaili and Ismail Mahmoodpour from Piranshahr were sentenced to a total of seven years and two months in prison by the first branch of the Mahabad Revolutionary Court headed by the judge (Amir Ojaklou) on Thursday June 15th, 2023.

The court accused these two citizens of “acting against national security through membership in one of the Kurdish parties against the regime” and based on the verdict, Mohammad Esmaili was sentenced to two years and eight months of imprisonment and Ismail Mohammadpour was sentenced to four years and six months of imprisonment.

Mohammad Esmaili was arrested by the security forces in October 2022 without a court order and was transferred to one of Urmia’s security detention centers for interrogation.

Mr. Esmaili was transferred to Naqdeh prison after completing the interrogation process and was temporarily released in January 2023 after posting bail.

Ismail Mahmoodpour was arrested by the security forces in November 2022 without a court order and was transferred to one of the Urmia security detention centers for interrogation.

Mr. Mahmoodpour was transferred to Naqdeh prison after the interrogation process was completed and he was temporarily released on bail in January 2023.
