Osman Ismaili was Sent to Hospital from Saqez Prison

Osman Ismaili, a labor activist, was taken to the forensic medicine after he developed abdominal discomfort. Despite the specialist doctor’s insistence that he needs surgery, the escort officers took him back to prison.

According to the Campaign for the Defense of Political and Civil Prisoners, Osman Ismaili, a labor activist jailed in Saqez central prison, was sent to the forensic medicine of this city due to discomfort and severe pain in his abdomen on Sunday, December 24th, 2023.

According to this report, after conducting the necessary tests, the medical examiner informed the prison officials and himself that he had an “inguinal hernia” disease and that he should be operated on as soon as possible.

Despite the specialist confirmation that Osman Ismaili’s physical condition is unsuitable, he was sent back to prison by the escort agents.

Osman Ismaili was arrested and sent to prison after appearing at the second branch of the criminal sentence enforcement of the General and Revolutionary Prosecutor’s Office of Saqez on Monday, November 13th, 2023.

This labor activist was sentenced to 31 months and 15 days in prison by the first branch of the Saqez Revolution Court on the charge of “membership in the Kurdistan Organization of the Communist Party of Iran” and seven months and 15 days on the charge of “propaganda against the regime by participating in the funeral of Gina Amini”.

The court, taking into account the mitigating factors contained in Article 38 of the Islamic Penal Code approved in 2013, and the age status of Mr. Ismaili and being married and based on the recent article of Al-Ashara and Article 6 of the Law on Reducing the Punishment of Imprisonment approved in 2020, which refers to Article 37 of the Penal Code. Islamic law approved in 2013, reduced the above severe prison sentence to 16 months of imprisonment including the days of previous detention.

The court hearing on Osman Ismaili’s charges was held under the chairmanship of Judge “Javad Mostafaei”, the head of the first branch of the Saqez Revolutionary Court and “Kivan Jahani”, the advisor of the Saqez Revolutionary Court on Sunday, June 28th, 2023.
